Carbon Tax to Reduce Pollution

by Stanford Magnets

Countries around the world are planning to take action against environmental population and other related issues that take place as a result of fossil fuel emissions. In fact, several countries have gone as far as to implement different measures in order to reduce the carbon dioxide pollution. Carbon tax is one such initiative taken by the UK government.

Carbon tax can simply be defined as a direct tax that is levied on a business, which emits carbon dioxide. Usually, carbon dioxide is emitted as a natural byproduct of fossil fuel combustion. Therefore, it is clear that a large number of companies around the UK are eligible to pay this tax on a regular basis. It can also be defined as a pollution tax, which has the intention to penalize the businesses which causes high carbon dioxide emissions. Before imposing the carbon tax, the government measures the amount of fossil fuels that a company uses and it is taxed according to the usage. Therefore, the companies which contribute a lot towards the environmental pollution will have to pay a large amount of money for the carbon tax.

The primary objective of carbon tax is to encourage businesses to think about their production methods and find alternatives for fossil fuels. The two fold benefits that a business can experience from this include spending a lesser amount on carbon tax and creating a positive image to the public. From the recent researches, it has been identified that many people prefer to purchase products from a company which makes products using environmentally friendly methods. However, carbon tax provides businesses with a choice. They can either continue to use fossil fuels while paying higher taxes or think about alternative options and reduce the amount of taxes.

According to the UK government, it is believed that the results of carbon tax will contribute a lot towards making this world a healthy place to live. In addition, it will be beneficial for the businesses as well, because they can seek the assistance of cheaper alternatives. Then they can use that money as a capital investment; invest in new products, operations or services. However, the developing countries in the world also contribute a lot towards the environmental pollution and it is high time for those countries to think about carbon tax. Environmental pollution is associated with a wide array of harmful results and it is essential for all of us to think about green energy sources. The carbon tax is a great motivational factor, which can help people to stop using fossil fuels for energy requirements.
